Il s'en plaignit à plusieurs reprises et crut pouvoir en attribuer la cause aux agissements du clergé   réfractaire \   Le bref du pape qui frappait de suspension touj prêtre jureur avait
été tiré à un grand nombre d'exemplaires. Des gens dévoués en apportaient de petits ballots et   depuis quelques
jours une abondante distribution s'en faisait, malgré la surveillance des révolutionnaires.   Le curé Gaultier a vu tout à coup la plus grande partie de ses paroissiens l'abandonner.
