ERMENGARDE Agnès Amicie Ermentrude De FLAITEL

Ermengarde was a prominent Norman noble woman and was the (Eng. Walter 1 Giffard) Seigneur of Longueville-en-Soie, in Mortemer, Normandy. She as the mother of four children, her sons had an impact on the the English landscape serving under two kings (William Rufus) and (Henry 1 of England)

Her daughter Roahise married Richard De Clare the son of Gilbert de Clair direct descendant of Richard 1.

Her family left thousands of descendants.

The charter is taken from the book Cartulaire de i'Abbaye de Conques en Rouergue published by Gustave Des Desjardins in 1879. The charter dated after 1107 was issued by Early Walter Giffard the younger and his mother Agnes. This it appears that Agnes wife of the senior Walter survived his death an was living as 1107. By this charter the younger Earl Walter Conveyed the tithe [decimam] in Taversham Norfolk to Conquest Abbey. As an aside. The charter is witnessed by various military tenants of Earl Walter the younger, including Eustace and Robert de Grenville.

Medieval Lands presents narrative biographical genealogies of the major noble families that ruled Europe, North Africa and Western Asia between the 5th and 15th centuries. The approach is to verify information against primary source material, quoting relevant extracts in the original language. This has enabled many traditionally accepted relationships to be challenged. The territorial emphasis and wide scope allow innovative conclusions to be drawn about the comparative development of the nobility in different geographical areas.
