One of my earliest memories is VE day in London. I was four years old. It was the first time in my life that I went out at night (because of the blackouts). Our mother took David (Gailyn) and me to central London to see all the crowds and to participate in the celebrations. Our father was not yet back from serving in the army. It was really wonderful, everyone was so happy. We saw the horse drawn carriage that carried the Queen and Princess Margaret. I obviously didn't understand whatit was all about - but it's a lovely and important memory and still brings tears to my eyes. I knew later that my mother, who had escaped the pogroms in Poland, was terrified that the Germans would win the war and occupy England. So this had to be a very, very important day to her.\

L'un de mes premiers souvenirs est le jour de la victoire \'e0 Londres. J'avais quatre ans. C'\'e9tait la premi\'e8re fois de ma vie que je sortais la nuit (\'e0 cause des coupures de courant). Notre m\'e8re nous a emmen\'e9s David (Gailyn) et moi au centre de Londres pour voir toute la foule et participer aux c\'e9l\'e9brations. Notre p\'e8re n'\'e9tait pas encore revenu de son service militaire. C'\'e9tait vraiment merveilleux, tout le monde \'e9tait si heureux. Nous avons vu la cal\'e8chequi transportait la reine et la princesse Margaret. Je n'ai \'e9videmment pas compris de quoi il s'agissait - mais c'est un souvenir charmant et important qui me fait encore pleurer. J'ai su plus tard que ma m\'e8re, qui avait \'e9chapp\'e9 aux pogroms en Pologne, \'e9tait terrifi\'e9e \'e0 l'id\'e9e que les Allemands gagnent la guerre et occupent l'Angleterre. Cela devait donc \'eatre un jour tr\'e8s, tr\'e8s important pour elle.}
