Cause : Biography«/b» Mathilde de Blois, also known as Mathilde de Champagne, countess of Perche, was named as the fourth of the six daughters of Thibaud II (or IV), Comte Palatin de Troyes, Comte de Blois, and his wife, Mathilde von Sponheim. Mathilde married Rotrou II, Count of Perche, probably before 1160. They had six children: 1.) Geoffrey, count of Perche, died 1202, married Mathilde (unknown) and secondly Mathilde of Saxony 2.) Stephen, died 1205, killed in battle at the siege of Adrianople 3.) Rotrou, bishop of Châlons, died 1201 4.) Henry, viscount of Mortagne 5.) William, bishop of Châlons, succeeded his nephew as count of Perche, died 18 February 1226 6.) Theobald, archdeacon at Reims She died on 1 January, probably 1184 LESS Marie de Blois or Marie de Champagne (born in 1128, † in 1190) is Duchess of Burgundy then Abbess of Fontevraud. She is the daughter of Thibaut IV of Blois, Count of Blois , Chartres and Châteaudun then Count of Meaux, Troyes and Champagne and also Lord of Sancerre, and Mathilde of Carinthia, daughter of Duke Engelbert of Carinthia of the house from Sponheim and Ute from Passau. «b»Biography «/b» She is the daughter of the Count of Champagne Thibaut IV de Blois and becomes Duchess of Burgundy by her marriage in 1145 with Eudes II. After the death of her husband in 1162, she became the guardian of her son, Hugues III, who became Duke of Burgundy at only 14 years old, and took the regency of the Duchy of Burgundy. She tries to marry her son to Eleanor of Vermandois, daughter of Raoul I st, Count of Vermandois, Amiens and Valois, and Petronilla of Aquitaine, but the project failed for unknown reasons when she seems to have had the agreement of the King of France Louis VII the Younger, who is also his brother-in-law. Then as his son Hugues advancing age, and under the impulse of many of his barons, like Eudes I st Grancey or Guy de Vergy, he gets angry with his mother and tries to free himself from his tutelage. TowardsApril 1165, Marie is then driven from the court and deprived of her dower, she is thus obliged to ask for the help of the king of France Louis VII the Younger, who summons the mother and the son to do justice, but the latter does not answer at the convocation. After several unanswered warnings, the monarch begins to make preparations for war. Hugh III made then alliance with the Emperor of the Holy German Empire Frederick Barbarossa, which then sends the Count of Champagne Henri I er mediate with the King and the Duke. Henri seems to have succeeded in restoring peace between Huguesand his mother, without needing the armed recourse of the king of France or the Germanic emperor. She then chose to retire to the Abbey of Fontevraud , of which she became abbess in 1174. However, Marie would have died in 1190, whereas the list of the abbesses displayed inside the abbey indicates that she would have been abbess from 1207 to 1208. Perhaps there is a confusion with her sister Marguerite, also a nun in Fontevraud. «b»Marriage and children«/b» In 1145, she married Eudes II, Duke of Burgundy, son of Hugues II the Pacific, Duke of Burgundy, and Mathilde de Turenne, with whom she had four children: 1.) Alix (1146, † 1209), married in 1164 to Archambaud, son of Archambaud VII, sire of Bourbon; then remarried to Eudes de Déols, Lord of Châteauroux. Widowed, she becomes, like her mother before her, but for a short period, Abbess of Fontevraud. 2.) Hugues III (1148 † 1192), Duke of Burgundy 3.) Mahaut († 1202), married to Count Robert IV of Auvergne, son of Count William VIII the Old and Anne de Nevers. another girl whose name has not come down to us, who would have married Robert, Seigneur de Boisleux.
